From Ballroom Competitions to the High Seas: How Our Cruise Ship Dance Career Began
Fifteen years ago, dance brought us together—and we've been joyfully moving through life ever since!
Our journey kicked off in the vibrant heart of Romania, where our passion resonated through dance halls.
We dedicated years to competing, proudly representing our homeland. Each twirl and leap brought the exhilarating rush of competition, transforming it into a way of life.
In 2016, after relocating to the picturesque landscapes of Germany, we made the thrilling leap from the Amateur Division to the Professional Division.
It was a bold choice, fueled by courage and commitment. We recognized that dance was not just a passion; it was our calling, and we aimed to compete with the best couples in the world.
In 2017, we celebrated a significant milestone—becoming German Champions! The thrill of victory was beyond words, a dream realized.
By 2018, we stood on the world stage, achieving 11th place in the Professional 10 Dances World Championship. These accomplishments were remarkable, yet they came with a hefty price tag.
The financial demands of a ballroom dance career weighed heavily on us.
Our last competition was in January 2019 in sunny Alicante, Spain. Although we reached the finals, a stirring within us indicated it was time for a new direction, a fresh chapter in our lives.
Shortly after returning from Alicante, we discovered a magazine ad for a world cruise starting at 20,000 euros per person. Like many, we had always dreamed of exploring the world—and the idea of earning a living while doing so was irresistible.
That moment sparked a new path for us, filled with excitement and uncertainty. We began exploring opportunities for ballroom couples on cruise ships and found an agent who opened the door to this thrilling adventure.
Our first contract, however, wasn't on a cruise ship but at a stunning summer resort in Turkey. Eager to embrace this new opportunity, we packed our belongings and moved from Germany back to Romania.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned, and we parted ways with the agent, feeling a mix of disappointment and determination.
Yet, we remained undeterred! We knew that every setback was just a setup for a comeback. With renewed energy, we sent out over 100 emails, each accompanied by our CV and showreel. The anticipation was tangible as we awaited responses. After nearly six months of persistence, we received the email that changed our lives forever.
We were accepted to work for MSC Cruise Line aboard MSC Divina, a magnificent ship hosting over 4,000 passengers and 1,000 crew members. It was the happiest day of our lives, filled with joy and relief!
In 2019, we embarked on our cruise ship dance career. The journey was not without challenges; the seas were sometimes rough, both literally and metaphorically. However, every moment was absolutely worth it. Since then, we've been sailing the high seas—exploring breathtaking destinations, meeting incredible people, and performing on grand stages for audiences worldwide. We fell in love with the ship theaters, where the electrifying energy of nightly performances fueled our passion even more.
As we reflect on this incredible journey, we are profoundly grateful for the opportunity to live our dream.
We never gave up—persistently sending email after email, follow-ups included—until someone finally said yes. One of the greatest lessons life has taught us is to never give up. We believed in ourselves, in our dancing, and most importantly, we trusted God to guide us through uncertainties.
And now, here we are, ready to embark on yet another thrilling adventure. The world is vast, and our hearts are open to whatever comes next.
